Trade West Africa

Our Goals & Objectives

(What we are trying to do)

To close the information gap: Track and report the real state of West African trade -not just what official statistics capture, but the unrecorded, informal, and cross-border flows that make up a large share of regional commerce. To explain policy in plain terms Break down tariffs, trade agreements (ETLS, AfCFTA, CET),border closures, and bloc realignments (ECOWAS, AES/WAEMU) in language that traders and everyday readers can actually use — not just policy specialists. Follow the money and the friction, consistently maintain ongoing coverage of the specific frictions holding the region back: border closures, export bans, customs delays, infrastructure gaps, and currency issues — with enough consistency to spot patterns, not just one-off stories. Center West African voices and data: Prioritize regional sources, institutions (ECOWAS,WAEMU, AfCFTA Secretariat, national statistics offices), and traders’ own experiences over external commentary about the region. Track integration and fragmentation side by side: Cover both directions honestly — the progress toward regional integration (AfCFTA, ECOWAS initiatives) and the setbacks (AES withdrawal, unilateral tariffs, border disputes) — without favoring one narrative. Build a resource, not just a news feed Over time: Develop explainers, country profiles, and sector breakdowns (agriculture, mining, energy, manufacturing) that readers can return to as reference material, not just timely posts.
